THIEVES® Essential Oil and Thieves Household Cleaner

by Lynn Kwitt on June 1, 2010

For those of you who don’t know the history of Thieves and the origin of its name, here’s the scoop. The blend originated in 15th Century Europe during The Plague. Corpse robbers thrived by anointing themselves with a variety of oils to protect against contracting the disease as they robbed the dead and dying. When apprehended and tried, they disclosed the formula in exchange for more lenient punishment. Apothecaries were highly regarded in ancient days, corresponding to present-day doctors, with their knowledge of the healing properties of herbs, curatives, potions and oils. Oils were considered sacred, more precious than gold–hence Frankincense at the nativity. The ability to heal and protect on many different levels is still unsurpassed.

Studies conducted in 1997 at Weber State University in Utah documented a 90% kill rate of airborne bacteria after diffusing Thieves for only 12 minutes. Even more amazing is that the longer it is diffused the more it works. After 20 minutes the rate jumped to 99.3%.]

Thieves is antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, anti-infectious, kills mold permanently and smells great. It has been used effectively to fight MRSA (the fatal, flesh-eating infection that’s been known to kill in a matter of days), Herpes, staph and TB.

Remember all these essential oils increase oxygen in the bloodstream up to 10%. Bacteria cannot live in an oxygen-rich environment, which is why burn victims and those with bone infections are often treated in hyperbaric chambers of pure oxygen under pressure, to prevent infection.

Thieves Essential Oil Blend  is  multi-purpose. I use it in a variety of forms several times every day. I wash my hands with the soap, brush my teeth with the toothpaste, and use the household cleaner on everything, diluted in a spray bottle, including as an air freshener. I use the household cleaner undiluted to wash clothes instead of toxic, non biodegradable laundry detergent. I use it in place of  Cascade in the dishwasher. The best characteristic  about Thieves Cleaner is that it is not poisonous.  The added plus is that  it smells wonderful. Wouldn’t you rather clean with something that is actually good for you as well as the environment! No need for rubber gloves and it actually helps bring more oxygen into the environment. Thieves household cleaner is in a proprietary liposome base that binds grease and oil to lecithin and actually cleans better than highly toxic products.

Ingredients of Thieves Oil:

CLOVE: Up until the 16th Century, people on the island of Ternate were free from epidemics until Dutch conquerors destroyed the clove trees that flourished on the island. Eugenol, clove’s principal constituent, was demonstated by Courmont, et al, to kill tuberculosis bacillus with only a .05% solution of eugenol from clove oil. During Egyptian times clove was used to strengthen the respiratory system and it is still well known today to relieve toothaches and gum pain. The high phenol and eugenol content in clove kills 60 different species of gram-negative and positive bacteria, 13 different fungi and 2 different viruses.

LEMON: Citrus has become very popular within the last few years. Lemon is added to cleaning products for the aroma and to cut grease. However it is usually added to chemical cleaners more to mask odors than to purify the air. Pure lemon oil is a germicide, it purifies air and water. It neutralizes petrochemicals. Lemon relieves heartburn, regulates blood pressure and stimulates red and white blood cell production, just to name a few benefits.

CINNAMON BARK: Helps with Staph and virus conditions. It is a powerful purifier and oxygenator and enhances the activities of other oils. It strenghens the circulatory system. Cinnamon and clove are two of the most potent antibacterial agents available in nature.

EUCALYPTUS RADIATA: It is the highest antimicrobial against bacteria and viruses. It relieves , flu, allergies, respiratory, sinus and viral infections. It fights Herpes Simplex when combined with Bergamot. Eucalyptus also helps hypoglycemia and candida.

ROSEMARY: Traditionally, French hospitals used rosemary to disinfect the air. It protects the liver, opens up the bile duct, helps reduce cholesterol, fights candida and is good for dandruff. It is a mental stimulant that helps overcome mental fatigue, improving mental clarity and focus. University of Miami scientists found that inhaling rosemary boosted alertness, eased anxiety and amplified analytic and mental ability.

How to use the Oil: For dietary, aromatic and topical use.

When using as a supplement, dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of cold liquid such as goat or rice milk.
Diffuse in the work or home environment using a cold air diffuser to cleanse the air of toxins and petrochemicals. The longer it’s diffused the more effective it is. For serious illness and infection diffuse constantly. One bottle will last for about 48 hrs. With a Young Living diffuser the whole bottle can be put on the diffuser and it will drip through. Check frequently.
To enhance the immune system, apply Thieves Oil on your feet, and ingest it when you have a cold or are in need of serious immune support.
Fill an “OO” capsule with 3-6 drops of Thieves and top it off with Lemon. Take 3 caps a day or even more frequently if called for. (Capsules are available at most health food stores and from  Young Living.)

Thieves Product TIPS
From Kelly G. Palazzi
“Before I vacuum, I take out the HEPA filter and put a few drops of Thieves essential oil blend, or whichever oil I’m in the mood for at that particular moment, then pop the filter back in. The air flowing through the filter disperses the wonderful aroma throughout the room.”

From Maria G. Turchi
“My daughter plays high school volleyball. After her last game, she stuffed her sneakers, knee pads and foot brace in her gym bag, zipped it closed, and forgot it for two months. You can image the odor that greeted me when I finally opened up that bag! I put everything in the washing machine with some Thieves® Household Cleaner. I then put two capfuls in a plastic tub and immersed everything for four hours. When I removed them, not only was the locker room smell completely gone, but everything actually smelled good as well!”

Helen Mitchell submitted the following tip:
“My daughter asked me not to use the chemical shampoo soap that comes with the rug shampooer. So yesterday I used two capfuls of Thieves® Household Cleaner in a gallon of water in the shampooer. It cleaned my carpet and my house smells of no chemicals and smells so good.”

Heidi Mischke submitted the following tip:
“My daughter’s stuffed animal was quite dirty, but I knew I couldn’t put it in the washer. I sprayed it with diluted Thieves® Household Cleaner and rubbed gently with a clean towel. The lamb’s fur became white again!”

Cheryl Carlisle submitted the following tip:

“My son left gum in his pants pocket and they got washed with all of his clothes. I remember someone using Thieves® for stains on laundry, so I thought why not give it a try? I sprayed the laundry down with Thieves blend diluted with water, let it sit for a few minutes, and then scraped the gum right off!”

Deb Bowman submitted the following tip:
“We have a dry erase board at work. The cleaner from the manufacturer is full of chemicals and smells very strong. I used a couple of drops of Thieves® essential oil blend on a tissue to clean. The marker came right off and the smell of Thieves was much more acceptable. Thank you Young Living!”

Diana Ewald submitted the following tip:
“I just have to tell you about another exciting use for Thieves® Household Cleaner I just discovered. I paint using oil paints and had run out of paint thinner to clean my brushes. I noticed I had some paint on my hands, so I used Thieves Household Cleaner, which took the paint off right away, and I thought, I’ll try this on my brushes. Don’t you know it cleaned them up beautifully and without having to worry about breathing in harsh chemicals. From now on I am using Thieves Household Cleaner to clean up whenever I paint!”

Susan Soderholm submitted the following tip:
“My fountain in my front garden had become clogged and coated with algae. I decided to take it apart and wash it with Thieves® Household Cleaner. The caldron of the fountain is black, and it was hard to tell if I had scrubbed it completely clean. So when I put it together again and refilled it with water, I put two caps full of Thieves in it. It runs beautifully now, and smells great!”

Sabine Barnett submitted the following tip:
“This weekend we used Thieves® Household Cleaner to wash all the wood trim on the outside of our home. We put water in a large sprayer bottle with 4–5 capfuls of the cleaner. Not only did the wood trim clean up beautifully, but it also looked like we had repainted all the trim. The best part was there were no dangerous fumes, the rags were clean and fragrant, and we tossed out the water knowing it would not harm the grass. Now we are not only clean, but green!”

Spray your plants with Thieves. They will perk right up!

Remember, all essential oils are NOT created equal. Claiming to be 100% pure, manufacturers need only use as little as one drop of pure oil in a bottle. Camphor and other thickening agents are common additives that are cheaper to produce, which means they are not therapeutic.

Young Living therapeutic oils are pharmaceutical grade, composed entirely of oil, no additives.
